Wake Park Worlds – Abu Dhabi, Wakeboarders Go Huge at Al Forsan

Wakeboarders from Around the World Step-up Their Riding at the Most Amazing Cable Park in the World

From Abu Dhabi, UAE (October 13, 2013) – Over 20 countries were represented for the final day of competition at the 2013 WWA Wake Park World Championships hosted by Al Forsan International Sports Resort. Amateur and Professional divisions ranging from ages of 7 to well over 40 hit the water for an all-or-nothing opportunity to say that they are the absolute best wakeboarder in the world.

Al Forsan had the event redlining from start to finish with top of the line facilities, DJs pumping out the vibes, not to mention some of the best riding in the world.  The international stage was stacked in all categories including pro riders like, with riders like Tom Fooshee (USA), Daniel Grant (Thailand), Matty Hasler (Australia).  With so many pros pushing there riding multiple new tricks were landed in contest and unexpected podium placements were made.

In the Pro Men’s division, with Dominik Gurhs of Germany putting the pressure on, Australian’s Matty Hasler and James Windsor absolutely laid down the most perfect runs possible, and the final result came down to the smallest degree. Gurhs was unable to finish his 2nd pass due to an injury and Hasler came out on top with his first ever World Championship.

Pro Women’s division also crowned a first ever World Champion with Germany’s Julia Rick throwing progressive tricks and clean smooth riding. Australia’s Courtney Angus and Netherland’s Maxine Sapulette round off the podium at 2nd and 3rd, respectfully.

Pro Women’s Features was a 7 minute all out jam with the best female wakeboarders hitting step-ups, transfers, pipe rail, rooftop and kickers. The ladies were determined to impress the spectators and judges with frontside 720s, sick presses and flawless riding. Just swapping places from the Pro Women’s division, Courtney Angus and Julia Rick finish 1st and 2nd, respectfully with Australia’s Ange Schriber finishing 3rd.

The Pro Men’s Features division kicked off with Tom Fooshee (USA), straight off of the dock, launching one of the biggest and cleanest backside 900’s we’ve seen. Not to be out done, Daniel Grant (THI) and Chandler Powell (USA) stepped up their riding with matching backside 900s and Grant taking one of the hardest cuts in the business to boost out a melon backside 180 that put him cable height. In the end, it was Thailand’s Daniel Grant that came out victorious, while Tom Fooshee finishes 2nd and Chandler Powell in 3rd.

With the concert series in effect, the event went off without a hitch and everyone had a great time. The perfect pull from the Al Forsan cable crowned many new champions and brought many different countries together to enjoy the sport of wakeboaring. A big thanks goes out to the Al Forsan International Sports Resort for hosting such and amazing event.
