MALIBU BOATS AND THE WWA ANNOUNCE SEVERAL EXCITING CHANGES FOR THE 2020 RIDER EXPERIENCE SERIES

ORLANDO, FL (January 23, 2020) – The World Wake Association (WWA) and Malibu Boats are excited to announce the return of the world’s premier amateur development event series with four stops of action for the 2020 Malibu WWA Rider Experience Series. This season, amateur riders across the U.S. will come together alongside the top Malibu Pro athletes for a weekend focused on the next generation in wake through family-friendly instruction and competition in a laid-back atmosphere that is open to participation from all who are interested. The 2020 season will implement various exciting changes, curating a weekend with greater accessibility for families and participants. Condensing to two action-packed days, the new format will begin with an immersive learning experience on Saturday, better known as Shredin’ Saturdays, followed by the WWA Regional Championships on Sunday.

“The Malibu Rider Experience Series is so great for amateur riders and progressing the sport. Everyone also looks forward to the event coming to their region each summer, providing the opportunity to ride the latest and greatest of Malibu Boats and hang out with Malibu’s pro team,” commented Malibu athlete Tarah Mikacich. “It’s really fun for me to get to see families and enthusiasts from each part of the country come together on the water. And this year, the more condensed, two-day schedule will make it even easier on families to travel for the events and enjoy the full experience of the series.”

Since 2013 the Malibu Rider Experience has hosted thousands of riders from first-timers to those making the transition to pro, while building local and national wake communities that fully encompass the spectrum of the sport that makes wake unlike anything it’s path. New for 2020 the first day of Rider Experience will take place on Saturday with ‘Shredin’ Sarturdays’ featuring freeriding for wakeboarding and wakesurfing, product demos, instruction from Malibu Pro athletes and a Judges Experience. This fully inclusive day in all things wake will provide the opportunity for the entire family, friends and neighbors alike to familiarize themselves with the course, receive tips on the water and in the boat, and test out the industry’s latest products. The WWA Regional Championships and Pro Card Qualifiers will be held on Sunday giving amateur riders the chance to compete with riders in their region and qualify for the WWA Wakeboard National Championships and aspiring pro’s the opportunity to earn professional status. Pulled by the Malibu Wakesetter Series, riders can expect to see new locations, new gear to demo and of course everyone’s favorite main event, the Jr. Pro Series!

Starting in the West and wrapping up in the North, four regional events are set to take place across the nation, featuring athletes in all WWA amateur divisions along with wake’s next elite competing in the progressive Jr. Pro Men’s series. The Jr. Pro Men’s division will once again be the featured WWA Regional Championships main event with a total of $15,000 in prize money and travel scholarships to the WWA Wakeboard National Championships and/or the WWA Wakeboard World Championships.

Malibu Boats dealers in each region will host the WWA Rider Experience events beginning on the west coast and working its way across North America. Information and registration can be found by visiting TheWWA.com/RiderExperience.

All athletes must compete in their respective WWA Regional Championship in order to be eligible for the 2020 WWA Wakeboard National Championships (boat only).

All riders must hold a current WWA Pro Card in order to register in the pro division at any WWA wakeboard event. The top 15 riders on the 2019 WWA Wakeboard World Rankings list will retain their Pro Card for the 2020 season. All other riders must obtain their Pro Card at one of six qualifying events.
