Auburndale, FL (August 2, 2021) – Day two saw 5 features-only amateur divisions and 6 traditional divisions hit the water with eager competitors looking to secure a spot in the finals happening later in the week. Riders in each division qualified to represent the U.S. at the 2021 Nautique WWA Wake Park World Championships in Orlando, Florida on September 10th – 12th at the Orlando Watersports Complex.
The day started with the Features Only format, where the divisions are divided by age groups instead of skill level. This format allows the riders to test their skills against other riders their age without any limitations on the tricks they are able to perform. The Grom’s 9 & Under division kicked off a very competitive day with nine year old Jay Johnson throwing down some big tricks, earning a top score of 96.00. In the Kid’s divisions, Daniel Pal easily defeated the other riders in his heat by landing a multiple kicker tricks and technical rail hits during the 7 minute jam session. Georgia native and former wake park national champion, Mattie Armer earned a perfect score in her Open Women’s heat with switch and regular toeside 360s off the kickers as well as impressive rail hits all across the park.
The first Pro division to take to the water was the Pro Wakeskate division, featuring 6 of the top wakeskaters in the country as they each took a turn to hit the obstacles completely unattached from the boards. A suprising standout in the first semifinal heat was Jake Kappler who put down various shuv-it maneuvers as well as some incredibly technical rail hits including a frontside bluntslide across the skate box and a locked-in noseslide on the creeper ledge of the incline rail. In semifinal heat 2, it was 16 year old Jadon Scures who ran away with the lead as he linked together a frontside boardslide and a 180 body varial on the coffin rail as well as a heelside 540 on his final kicker hit.
