For over 30 years the WWA has been the world’s premier provider of amateur and professional wakeboard events, sanctioning and rules; “developed by riders, for riders”. Since its inception in 1989, the WWA has empowered the sport of wakeboarding to progress and evolve naturally by providing various amateur and professional sanctioning programs, protecting its riders through extensive amateur and professional membership levels and allowing freedom and opportunities for organizers to grow the sport.
As an industry champion, the WWA has sanctioned, insured and organized over 15,000 global events to date. With affiliates operating on every continent, the WWA is in a position to positively affect the growth of everything wake; wakeboard, wakesurf, wakeskate and wake park. Most of the small group of impassioned riders and founders who helped create both the organization and the sport are still involved today, helping to continue growth and remain relevant as a driving force in the sport. With the WWA staying true to it’s roots, “by riders, for riders”, one can expect the next 30 years to only be bigger and better.

Who we are
Shannon Starling
Shannon Starling brings over 40 years experience in the industry. As one of the original founders of the World Wake Association (WWA). Starling , a multi-time national and world champion athlete, forged a path from beginner to professional in multiple disciplines in wake. Has also been recognized with two lifetime achievement awards along with induction to the Wakesports Hall of Fame.
In addition to growing wakesports Starling has also developed programs in conjunction with NASBLA, the US Coast Guard, boating education, and overall risk management programs for all the above.
Corrie Wilson
Corrie Wilson is the first woman in the modern history of wake to become Executive Director of the WWA. With over 16 years of competitive experience, 8 of those professional as a top 5 competitor.
Corrie has chief judged over 80 events and been involved in the production of 175 events in her short career. Corrie serves on the board of the Watersports Industry Association as well as the Wakesports Hall of Fame.
Ben Greenwood
Ben Greenwood (aka “Benny G”) rode professionally for 11 years, earned “Rider of the Year” in 2005, appeared on Readers Poll top 10’s, TV shows, videos, demos, and contests around the globe. Getting his start in instructing, Ben found a passion for helping others progress in the sport that he loves.
After his pro riding days Ben went on to work for WAKEBOARDING Magazine as Content Editor. He then moved over to the sales side of the house and was promoted to Publisher. Ben stepped away from watersports and ran partnerships in the corporate world in Middle Market M&A and media focused on SaaS. Now returning to the industry he loves after sharing the experience with his two young sons.
Scotty Broome
Scotty is a former professional wakeboarder with over two decades of experience in the wake industry. A Planet X Games medalist and WWA World Champion, he joins the WWA full-time after many years as a competitor, event official and judge. He brings a wealth of knowledge from Sales and Marketing roles held at top fast-moving consumer goods and technology companies, including Monster Energy, Newell Brands, ServiceNow, and Micromine over a 10 year corporate career. We look forward to Scotty bringing his track record of success to his role as Director of Global Events and Partnerships.

Michelle Dix
Michelle brings a unique blend of expertise in systems, education, and accounting, with a passion for problem-solving and continuous learning. She has a solid background in streamlining processes and working across multiple disciplines, which makes her a versatile asset to our team.
Outside of work, Michelle is a dedicated wife and mother of two college-aged daughters. She values spending time with family and friends. She loves to travel and believes this new position will be healthy work-life balance. Michelle’s diverse background, combined with her warm, approachable nature, will no doubt make her a great fit for our collaborative culture. We’re thrilled to have Michelle on board and look forward to the contributions she’ll bring to the team!
