Lake Alfred, Fla. (October 12, 2015) – The 2015 Wakeboard World Series has been unlike any wake sport series the industry has ever seen. The WBWS included a Pro Men and Women’s World Series, Nautique Wake Series, Malibu Evolution Pro Series, WWA Nationals, WWA Wakeboard World Championships and the largest payout ever offered.
Nautique continues to innovate and build their relationship with the riders within the industry, as they bring all divisions of pro and amateurs together at their events. The stops from the Nautique Wake Series that were part of the Wakeboard World Series were made up by the Nautique Wake Open in Texas, the Nautique Pro-Am in Northern California, and the WWA Wakeboard National Championships in Miami. Australia’s Harley Clifford won the Pro Men’s Wake Series Championship, while Nautique rider, Meagan Ethell was crowned the Pro Women’s Wake Series Champion. In addition, Nic Rapa won the Jr. Pro division and Reed Hansen took home the Pro Wakeskate division Wake Series title.
The Malibu Evolution Pro Series brought us to unique destinations across the world including two international stops in Cancun, Mexico and Tokyo, Japan. The WWA worked with Malibu Boats to create a new standard in professional wakeboarding to showcase the highest level of professional wakeboarding at world class destinations. The Malibu Cancun Pro, Malibu Tokyo Pro and Malibu Houston Pro were the three stops that made up the series where, Steel Lafferty and Malibu team rider, Dallas Friday were able to amaze the industry and win the first ever Malibu Evolution Pro Overall Series titles.
The Wakeboard World Series provided the pro riders with other impeccable riding locations that included the Campeonato Mundial De Wakeboard in Brazil and the WWA Supra Wakeboard World Championships in Portugal. The consistent and talented Harley Clifford took 1st place at both of these Wakeboard World Series events.
This year’s changes were huge for the athletes; especially the women, who were given their own place on the world stage. It was exciting to see the level of riding constantly progress and seeing riders go out and battle each other for the top spot each weekend. That’s what the sport is about and the WWA and its partners strive to improve year by year. Without the help of Rockstar energy, Billabong, Fox Riders Co., Ronix Wakeboards, CWB Board Co., and loyal riders at every one of the Wakeboard World Series events, the 2015 Wakeboard World Series would not have been as successful.
About the WBWS
The Wakeboard World Series will offer the largest payout the sport has seen in its 26-year history with a total of $425,000 to be handed out to the men and women throughout the series. This increase is just one of many avenues that the WWA have stepped up to further legitimize wakeboarding along with an increased focus on attracting media, sponsors, and consumers. This year’s Wakeboard World Series is the largest World Series in recent years, making it the only true global wakeboard series. The 2015 Wakeboard World Series will travel to four rounds within the United States as well as Mexico, Brazil, Canada, a return to Japan, and for the first time, the WWA World Championships will be held in Portugal.
