From Acworth GA (June 19, 2014) – Amateurs, top Junior Pros and aspiring Pro Men riders hit the waters of Lake Allatoona on June 13-15 at Dallas Landing in Acworth, Georgia to have some fun, get seeded for WWA Wakeboard Nationals and earn their Pro Card for the season.
Riders kicked off the weekend with Freeride Friday sessions behind three sensational Malibu boats including two WAKESETTER 24 MXZ’s and one WAKESETTER 22 MXZ. Malibu Pro Team riders set the vibe and helped out with trick tips and teaching beginner riders how to shred. Oli Derome, Jeff Langley, Phil Soven as well as Cobe and Tarah Mikacich set a great example for the aspiring pros.
Dallas Landing served as the perfect venue to allow multiple boats on the water together. Every rider got butterflies out so they could feel comfortable for their contest passes on Saturday, as the WWA South Regional titles would be up for grabs.
In the amateur WWA Regional’s on Saturday, riders ages 8 to 55 competed in their respective divisions and got their chance to win the South Regional title as well as earn seeding for the 2014 WWA Wakeboard National Championships in Waco, Texas on July 24-27. The amateurs were absolutely ripping and riders were landing their first ever contest tricks, including Ellery Hunt with a perfect frontside 360.
A solid group of aspiring pro riders came out to the event with the hopes of earning their 2014 Pro Card. A total of four riders earned their cards and qualified to compete in any Pro Men’s division. John Hunt took hope the top spot followed by Vinny Knapp, John Zdeblick, and Justin Lee.
New to the Rider Experience in 2014, the Junior Pro Men were the highlight of the event. Cory Teunissen (AUS), Parker Siegele (AUS) and Juan Mendez (USA) came to put on a show, finishing first, second and third, respectively. Siegele was able to land a heelside frontside 900 followed by an array of other super technical tricks, while Teunissen stomped a switch mute mobe, huge spins and floaty style.
After two awesome days of riding, the event concluded on Sunday with the relaxed pace of the Wakesurf Experience, where riders had the chance to experience the limitless possibilities with Malibu’s SURF GATE®. Several riders landed something new for the first time! Most riders agreed, there was no better way to conclude the Rider Experience.
