ORLANDO, FL (July 15, 2020)– In response to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and its widespread impacts across the nation, the World Wake Association (WWA) and Nautique Boat Company have adjusted the entry deadlines for the 2020 Nautique WWA Wakeboard National Championships presented by GM Marine Engine Technology. Due to the current restrictions in place as a result of COVID-19, the 2020 Nautique WWA Wakeboard National Championships presented by GM Marine Engine Technology will have capped entries and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. There will be no priority of entry into the event based on previous placement or WWA competition history, the only registration priority will be given to athletes who have competed in their respective WWA Regional Championship for this year. Riders competing in their respective WWA Regional Championship qualifiers will need to claim their spot for the WWA Wakeboard National Championships by Wednesday, July 22nd at 5:00 p.m. EST. Registration will be opened to fill the field on a first come, first serve basis after this deadline. All athletes competing in their respective WWA Regional Championship will be able to register for Nationals regardless of their regional placement and will receive higher seeding in the preliminary rounds of competition. Athletes who register for Nationals without placement from a regional qualifier will receive lower seeding in the first rounds of competition, if and when entry spots become available. This event is expected to fill up, due to the limitations on capacity and will be strictly enforced, and riders are encouraged to register as soon as they are eligible to do so. Registration information can be found by visiting thewwa.com/nationals. “Adjusting the registration deadlines for this year’s National Championships opens up the opportunity for more riders to now compete amidst any issues they’ve had getting on the water due to restrictions, limited access to local or regional events, and of course the short notice on our own set of schedule changes. This year has been unlike anything we’ve seen before and it’s important to the WWA and our partners that everyone is given fair opportunity to participate in these unprecedented times,” commented WWA Executive Director Corrie Wilson. “We so appreciate everyone’s flexibility and patience these last few months and we can’t wait to see everyone at BSR in August – socially distanced of course!” All events currently laid out on the event schedule are set to happen as planned and competitors and families will be notified immediately of any event changes. In an effort to continue minimizing the spread of COVID-19 while in consideration for the health and safety of the riders, families, and staff, social distancing guidelines will be implemented at all WWA events. The WWA will ensure these procedures adhere to and operate in compliance with the most recent state and CDC guidelines. Those traveling to the event are also encouraged to take the appropriate steps to preventing COVID-19 while traveling. The WWA’s specific social distancing guidelines have gone into effect for all upcoming events and can be found by visiting thewwa.com/wwa-social-distancing-guidelines.
