MALIBU RIDER EXPERIENCE FLORIDA REGIONAL QUALIFIER ANNOUNCED

ORLANDO, FL (June 4, 2020) – In an abundance of caution in response to the effects of COVID-19 (coronavirus) the World Wake Association (WWA) and Malibu Boats have made the decision to split the Malibu Rider Experience South to take place in two locations in order to reduce the number of participants. The Florida region will now host a one-day qualifier on the exclusive and iconic blue waters of Sunset Harbortowne Lakes in Hudson, FL on Saturday, June 20th as seen in the PRIME Wake Movie and the Red Bull Wake Open. This competition will be held as a Nationals qualifier for Florida region riders only and will not include a freeride day or Jr. Pro Series. Information on the Malibu Rider Experience South, encompassing all states in the region except Florida, and the remaining stops to the series will be shared as details become available.

In an effort to continue minimizing the spread of COVID-19 while in consideration for the health and safety of the riders, families, and staff, social distancing guidelines will be implemented at all WWA events. The WWA will ensure these procedures adhere to and operate in compliance with the most recent state and CDC guidelines. A specific plan detailing out the new measures will be posted by the WWA ahead of the first stop to the Malibu Rider Experience Series and will go into effect immediately.  Each of the Malibu Rider Experience events will also have entries capped per division to be in compliance federal, state and local limits on public gatherings.

Information and registration can be found by visiting TheWWA.com/RiderExperience. All athletes must compete in their respective WWA Regional Championship in order to be eligible for the 2020 WWA Wakeboard National Championships (boat only).

All riders must hold a current WWA Pro Card in order to register in the pro division at any WWA wakeboard event. The top 15 riders on the 2019 WWA Wakeboard World Rankings list will retain their Pro Card for the 2020 season. All other riders must obtain their Pro Card at one of six qualifying events. For a full list of rules visit TheWWA.com/ProCard.

The WWA is continuing to do what we can in this situation to provide timely notifications of events that are impacted. At this time, we are making our best efforts to provide a minimum of a 30-day notice on any event changes for domestic events and 45 days for international events.
