2016 Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Championships to Take Place at Toronto’s CNE Festival

LAKE ALFRED, Fla. (August 11, 2016) – Today, the World Wakeboard Association (WWA) announced that the 2016 Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Championships presented by Rockstar Energy is set to take place in Toronto, Canada on August 25-28 for the fifth and final stop of the Nautique Wake Series. New for this year, wakeboarding’s most prestigious event will be held waterfront and a part of Canada’s largest annual fair, the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE). The sports most decorated athletes from around the globe are set to represent their respective countries behind the three-time Wakeboard Boat of Year, the Super Air Nautique G23, competing for a chance to become crowned World Champion. The event will also serve as the sixth round of the Wakeboard World Series (WBWS).

“The topic of conversation here at the WWA over the past few years has been growth,” said WWA President Shannon Starling. “We have seen growth at all of the amateur events so far this season. Combining the Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Championships with the Canadian National Exhibition brings another area of growth while exposing our sport to the festivals estimated 1.6 million attendees.”

All amateur riders competing from the United States must have earned a qualifying position through the Nautique WWA U.S. Wakeboard National Championships that took place at the Dallas Landing Park in Acworth, Georgia. The competition will begin with amateur qualifying on Thursday as they battle for the opportunity to compete in Friday’s finals. Pro Men and Women divisions are scheduled to take the water for initial qualifying on Saturday, while the weekend will wrap up with their highly anticipated finals on Sunday. The award-winning Super Air Nautique G23 continues to push wakeboarding’s progression and will provide riders in every division the platform to perform at their absolute best. The Nautique Wake Series is the only event series in 2016 that gives riders of all ages, gender and skill level the opportunity to compete at an elite level.

“It’s going to be an incredible opportunity to compete at the 2016 Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Championships in Toronto,” said Team Nautique Rider Mike Dowdy. “There will be no shortage of action on the water and with all of the fans hanging out for the CNE Festival, I can guarantee you will see amazing riding from everyone behind the boat that has changed what we’re capable of on the water, the Super Air Nautique G23.”
